About Baton of Hope Norwich

‘‘The UKs Biggest Suicide Prevention Initiative’’

The Baton of Hope is unprecedented – its first tour was, as its founders intended, the UK’s largest ever suicide prevention initiative. As such, it deserves an iconic device that can serve as a unifying symbol for the campaign. We need something that represents the desperately serious and highly-charged subject of suicide, while at the same time promoting the ocean of hope and optimism at the heart of the mission.

We are part of a growing movement aspiring to a zero-suicide society and will simply not tolerate the level of suicides currently recorded within the UK, when most suicides are preventable and suicide is the leading preventable death.

We have a vision of a society where suicide and suicide prevention are openly and widely discussed, where we inspire hope through action, where people are suitably supported, and where everyone plays their part in realising this vision.

The national event will see the Baton — the world’s first physical icon of mental wellbeing — carried across the UK, and Norwich was one of the successful bidders chosen to host a one-day leg of the tour. A range of events will take place in addition to the Baton procession. View Our Route for more information on the day, 17th September 2025.

Suicide survivors and those bereaved by suicide are being offered the chance to help carry the baton in honour of their own survival or in memory of a loved one lost. It will be the UK’s largest ever single suicide prevention initiative. View our News page for the latest press releases.

The Norwich leg of the tour is being project managed by Norwich Samaritans in partnership with other charities, organisations and individual volunteers across Norwich and Norfolk. Visit our Norwich Team, our Partners, and Further Resources to see who’s involved and what services are available to you.
